Europe Heatwave Sparks Viral 'Melting' Videos as Extreme Temperatures Trigger Online Debate

One of the most widely shared posts was published on X by user @wosgnn, claiming that tennis racket handles were literally melting in Germany at 36°C. The video allegedly showed a woman pressing the rubber grip of a tennis racket as it appeared unusually soft and sticky due to the heat. The post carried the caption, "Why are European Products so low Quality."

The authenticity, location and timing of the viral video could not be independently verified. Nevertheless, the clip attracted thousands of reactions from social media users. One user commented, "They wouldn't have imagined that such a day would come in Germany too."

Another user questioned the product's origin by writing, "Made in China?"

A third user mocked the situation, saying, "WTF. I mean, they have such low quality products that can't withstand 36°C. Come to India, you will find everything working normally despite temperatures touching 45°C in peak summers, some even 48°C."

Several users extended the discussion beyond consumer products and pointed to reports of infrastructure challenges during the ongoing heatwave. One comment claimed, "These melt because they are Chinese. But tram lines are melting in Germany. Trams had to be stopped because of that."

Another social media user wrote, "What is going on? Literally everything is melting in Europe."

A separate viral clip circulating in the comments section allegedly showed long queues of people purchasing electric fans in Paris as temperatures continued to soar. The post sarcastically referred to fans as "state of the art cooling technology."

The caption accompanying the video stated, "Indian couples living in Paris, France, share their awesome experience of buying state of the art cooling technology called FAN."

The viral posts emerged as Europe continued to battle one of its harshest heatwaves in recent years. France alone has reportedly recorded more than 1,000 heat-related deaths, with older adults among the worst affected. Across several parts of Europe, soaring temperatures have reportedly disrupted transport services, strained power supplies and significantly increased demand for cooling appliances.

Some social media users also claimed that electric fans and other cooling devices were becoming increasingly difficult to purchase in certain regions because of surging demand.

Another widely circulated comment stated, "Europeans have been blessed with colder climate, so their manufacturing expenses are less and hence they managed to become developed rapidly. The heatwave came as a surprise and exposed the real quality of products."

While many of the viral posts were shared humorously, climate experts have repeatedly warned that rising temperatures across Europe represent a serious public health challenge. The ongoing heatwave has already caused transport disruptions, prompted emergency alerts and intensified concerns over whether European cities are adequately prepared for a future marked by increasingly frequent and severe extreme weather events.
